“How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing.” (v. 37b).
- Jesus warned of the danger that would befall Jerusalem. With sadness, He said, “Jerusalem, Jerusalem” (the great city of Judah, the seat of kings, the place of divine worship, the holy city). But it was also a city full of wickedness. Therefore, Jesus condemned the scribes and Pharisees. They were the ones who killed the prophets, stoned the servants of God. They were also the ones who would crucify Jesus (v. 37a).
- Jesus was sad to see their condition and what would happen to them in the future. Jerusalem will be destroyed (Matt. 23:38,39; 24:1-2). Jesus had many times wanted to gather them together, just as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but they refused. With His love Jesus called them not to perish (v. 37b);
- A mother hen called her chicks because an eagle was flying after them. They ran to their mother and took cover under her flapping wings. Be safe and secure for them. That's our situation. Without Jesus we would fall prey to various evils in the world today;
- The world is not okay. Jesus knows all the evil that is happening, and will happen. Therefore He calls us, telling us the “dangers” that are happening and will happen. But we refuse. Rejecting, we perish. Come to Him and take shelter under the “wings of His power” we are safe and secure.
Prayer: Thank you God for Your love. By taking refuge under Your wings, we are preserved in Your love and grace. Amen.
GOD BLESS YOUR ACTVITIES (siz).
